Ukraine withdrew from the membership of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research. The corresponding resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers was adopted today, September 2, according to the Government portal.
CMU recalls that the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is an international intergovernmental research organization located in the city of Dubna, Moscow Region of Russia, its founders are 18 member states.
Considering the decision of the Council of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (hereinafter referred to as CERN) dated March 8, 2022 on the unacceptable cooperation with the aggressor country in the scientific and technical field, making measures to suspend the cooperation of CERN with specialized institutions of the Russian Federation that operate on the territory of the aggressor country and of which Ukraine is also a member, the Permanent Mission of Ukraine to the UN Office and other international organizations in Geneva appealed in the Ministry of Education and Science as the central executive body of Ukraine, which deals with issues of international scientific and technical cooperation, with a proposal to initiate a draft decision on the departure from the Cabinet of Minister of Ukraine. in particular, the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research, the report said.
It was noted that the resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine “On withdrawal from the membership of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research” aims to protect the national interests and national security of Ukraine.
Earlier it was reported that the government of Ukraine terminated the agreement with Russia on cooperation in the field of nuclear energy.
