The bureau continues to work to bring to justice former Ukrainian servicemen from Crimea, who defected to the enemy in 2014.
The State Bureau of Investigation reported in absentia about the suspicion of nine ex-servicemen who stayed in Crimea in 2014 and went to the enemy. This was announced on September 2 by the press service of the department.
Among the suspects are the chief of staff, battery commander, deputy commanders and other officers of the group of anti-aircraft divisions of one of the military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
“In addition to the fact that these ex-servicemen contributed to the occupation of the peninsula, during the massive Russian invasion of Ukraine, most of them continued to fight on the side of the enemy. One of them, Denis Podobedov , holds the position of deputy commander of an anti-aircraft missile regiment and heads the air defense of the invaders of Crimea “, – emphasized in GBR.
It is noted that all of them are suspected of desertion and high treason (part 1 of article 408 and part 1 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
The punishment of the article provides punishment in the form of imprisonment up to 15 years with confiscation of property.
The Bureau noted that many former Ukrainian soldiers continue to serve the occupying forces and fight against their own people. However, such crimes have no statute of limitations and all traitors in Ukraine must be held accountable.
Earlier, the State Bureau of Investigation reported suspicion on the former commander of the corvette Ternopil Maxim Emelianenko, who in 2014 went to the side of the enemy and is fighting in Ukraine.
