The head of the IAEA said what he saw at ZNPP

The International Atomic Energy Agency plans to ensure a permanent presence at a nuclear facility seized by the Russian Federation.

International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi said international observers remain at the station and their work is “just beginning.” This was reported on September 2 in Energoatom.

“Our work at the station is just starting. I have seen a lot. And my people are still there. We had the opportunity to go around the entire site. I went inside the blocks, I had the opportunity to see emergency systems, diesel generators , and other elements. We also visited the block control panels of some power units,” said Grossi.

According to him, the mission experts chose three or four main places that needed to be seen, and they did it.

“We are going to the station for a long time … We have a lot of work to do a detailed analysis of some of the technical aspects of what we found,” the head of the IAEA. said.

He also added that the station and its physical integrity have been violated several times, either by accident or on purpose.

According to Grossi, two groups of technical experts arrived in Ukraine. The first will be at ZNPP until Sunday or Monday to “form some observations and conclusions” for the report.

“After that, it is planned to ensure our permanent presence at the nuclear power plant. It has to provide an objective, neutral, technologically sound assessment of what is happening at the plant,” the head of the agency said.

He confirmed that he spoke with Zaporizhzhya NPP staff and residents of Energodar.

“Of course, I was able to talk a lot with the workers, with the Energodar people. What did I tell them? That I was leaving, but the IAEA stayed at the station,” Grossi said.

The head of the IAEA emphasized that the Ukrainian workers of the station are in a difficult emotional and psychological situation, but they continue to fulfill all their duties.

Recall that on September 1, a delegation of the International Atomic Energy Agency arrived at the Zaporozhye NPP in occupied Energodar. UN experts must assess the damage caused to a nuclear facility during the conflict.
