Moldova’s MFA summoned Russia’s Charge d’Affaires to explain the policy on minorities.
The Moldovan Foreign Ministry responded to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov’s statement about Moscow’s readiness to “protect the Russian-speaking population” in this country. The corresponding comment on Thursday, September 1, was published by the representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Daniel Vodev Twitter.
“As always, Chisinau remains fully committed to peaceful talks on the Transnistrian settlement and calls on Russia to withdraw troops illegally stationed on our territory. Any assumptions about another way are unfounded,” he wrote .
The spokesperson added in relation to the recent statements of the Russian Foreign Ministry, “this is a reminder to colleagues” that Moldova is a democratic country, and the rights and freedoms of all, including Russian-speaking, Ukrainian, Gagauz, Bulgarian and other minority languages, are guaranteed.
Vode also noted that to clarify this position, the Moldovan Foreign Ministry summoned Russia’s Charge d’Affaires.
Recall, Lavrov said that any actions that threaten the security of the Russian military in Transnistria, called “peackeepers” in Moscow, will be considered an attack on Russia.
The Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reacted to Lavrov’s statement and recalled that Moscow made similar statements on the eve of February 24, 2022.
