President Volodymyr Zelenskyy congratulated Ukrainian children on Knowledge Day and noted the importance of starting the school year against the background of war. This was reported by the press service of the head of state on Thursday, September 1.
“This summer, no one had a summer. The weather went from winter to winter. Instead of playgrounds, you had to be in basements. Instead of playing football in the street, you had to stay in the old people and hear a lot of tragic news. But you are brave, and you chose – the choice in favor of Ukraine. All of Ukraine – from Uzhgorod to Yalta, from Chornomorsk to Kharkov. In favor of all our people… Part of your childhood, part of your youth was stolen from you, but you are free, you always will be,” said Zelensky.
The President noted that each year begins the academic year differently. A person away from home – in other regions of Ukraine. A person away from home – in other countries. Who remotely, in an online format. Someone at their home school or at their university, but still uncomfortable.
“However, it is important that the school year begins. It is important that education continues. And knowledge about Ukraine is not interrupted,” the head of state added.
Zelensky emphasized that “Ukrainian children can only be proud”: “Our children supported us, supported the state. They grew up quickly. They were not afraid, but helped. They helped in bomb shelters. They took care their wounded parents. They brought water and food to the military. Collected money to give to volunteers for the army. One can only be proud of the Ukrainian children.”
In his speech, the President quoted Ukrainian poets, in particular, Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, Vasily Stus, Vasyl Symonenko, Lina Kostenko and others.
Recall that at the end of August, more than 640,000 students were outside Ukraine, and about 200,000 more school children were in territories temporarily occupied by Russia.
This year, the Ministry of Education has given schools complete freedom in choosing the education format.
