The Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine has published a video in which for the first time you can see the American AGM-88 HARM anti-radar missiles – they were installed on the Soviet MiG-29 fighter.
The Ukrainian pilot filmed and edited a video of combat work. Ivan dedicates this video to his fallen brother Yevgeny Lysenko, who died heroically in an air battle with the Russian invaders on March 9, the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported.
An AGM-88 missile with a conical nose, under the wing of a MiG-29, next to an R-73 air-to-air missile, hit the frame. Later, the video shows the launches of these missiles from a fighter.
The United States adapted this anti-radar missile for MiG-29 fighters. Pentagon Vice Chairman Colin Kahl said Ukrainians have been using AGM-88 missiles with great success in recent weeks.
In early August, the first news began to appear about the defeat of Russian positions by AGM-88 HARM missiles. But then it was not known from which platform the Ukrainian military used American missiles.
On August 8, the US Department of Defense confirmed that it had provided anti-radar missiles to the Ukrainian Air Force.
The AGM-88 High-speed Anti-Radar Missile is a high-speed anti-radar missile adopted by the United States in 1983.
The missile is guided to high-frequency radars. HARM calculates the location of the target and is able to hit it, even if the radar was turned off. The latest modifications are designed to destroy the radar with a change in operating frequencies.
HARM is designed for American combat aircraft, some European and now Soviet-made fighters, which are armed with the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Earlier, The New York Times wrote that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are combining Western and Soviet weapons – this, according to representatives of the US Department of Defense and military experts, makes it possible to achieve serious success on the battlefield.
The interlocutor of the publication in the Pentagon said that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are installing HARM missiles supplied by the United States on the MiG-29. This has never been done before by the air forces of any other country. Usually HARMs are incompatible with the fighters that Ukraine has in service. However, the Armed Forces have reconfigured the sensors on the missiles so that pilots can launch them from the MiG.
