At a meeting of Foreign Ministers of EU countries, they could not reach a consensus on limiting the issuance of visas to Russian citizens.
EU foreign ministers failed to agree on a ban on issuing visas to Russian citizens. This was announced by Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto on Wednesday, August 31.
According to him, the agreement cannot be reached, because many countries are against such a step.
Thus, the EU will only suspend the visa facilitation agreement with the Russian Federation.
It was previously reported that the EU is preparing to complicate the issuance of visas for Russians. Brussels aims to “go beyond restricting visa facilitation” and may take further steps in this direction before the end of the year.
On the eve it became known that Germany suspended the simplified visa regime in the Russian Federation.
And now Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have expressed their readiness to independently restrict the issuance of visas for Russians until Europe makes a general decision.
