Russian authorities are preparing “adaptation programs” for the cultural reprogramming of Ukrainian citizens who have gone to Russia.
Russian President Vladimir Putin created the conditions for the forced cultural assimilation of Ukrainians who were transferred to the Russian Federation in order to erase their cultural identity. This is stated in the report of the American Institute for the Study of War (ISW) for August 30.
It was noted that the creation of “adaptation centers for migrants” is being discussed in the Russian Federation.
Igor Barinov, head of the Federal Agency for Ethnic Affairs, said the other day that with Putin’s permission and support, the agency is developing programs in pilot regions aimed at preventing “social exclusion of migrants.” According to the official, they must know and respect Russian traditions, customs and laws.
According to Russian media, such programs should be built as a cross between refugee camps and vocational training centers.
“The creation of so-called social adaptation programs in Russia will add a social dimension to the legal framework in which Putin probably seeks to force Ukrainians to assimilate into the culture of the Russian Federation,” ISW emphasizes.
Analysts believe that the initiatives of the Russian Federation, including in the field of law, are an expanded campaign for the Russification of Ukraine.
“Programs in so-called adaptation centers are likely to serve as a kind of cultural reprogramming to erase Ukrainian cultural identity from displaced Ukrainians who fled Russia or were expelled by Russian authorities,” the experts concluded.
Recall that on August 27, the President of Russia signed two decrees concerning the Ukrainians. One provides a one-time and monthly payment, and the other – the right to stay in the country and work.
