Against the backdrop of a full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine, Poland has decided to double its military spending for next year. The country plans to strengthen its defenses, as well as spend up to 40 billion zł on weapons purchases. This was announced at a press conference in Warsaw by Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki, Bloomberg reports.
So, next year, Poland’s spending on the army may increase to 98 billion zlotys. This year, the corresponding amount is PLN 58 billion. In addition, the Polish government plans to spend up to 40 billion zlotys on the purchase of weapons abroad.
“We have the opportunity to significantly strengthen our army and recruit new soldiers,” Morawiecki said.
He also spoke about the concern of Polish citizens due to the Russian Federation’s massive invasion of Ukraine. Amid concerns, the government plans to increase the number of soldiers. We are talking about more than 20 thousand new soldiers.
