Germany proposes to suspend the visa facilitation agreement with Russia to the countries of the European Union.
The German government would like to mediate in a dispute between EU countries over a complete ban on entry for citizens of the aggressor country. This statement was made on August 30 by Foreign Minister Annalena Burbock, NDR reports.
Europe needs to find a common solution on various positions. My proposal is to suspend the visa facilitation agreement so that no more multi-year visas are issued, the minister stressed.
Burbock considers that in this case it would be possible to carefully check how close the applicant is to the Russian government.
In addition, on August 30, on the eve of the meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague on August 30, France and Germany issued a joint statement, where they noted that they considered the ban on the issuance of tourist visas to Russian citizens counterproductive. Paris and Berlin urged “to find sensible ways to use the important leverage of issuing visas.”
Recall, on August 28, the Financial Times reported that the European Union is preparing to support the suspension of the visa facilitation agreement with Russia. Such a decision, which EU ministers plan to discuss this week, will limit the ability of Russians to travel to EU countries.
