The Stena Scandica was able to proceed to Nynashamn, Sweden, escorted by tugboats and the Coast Guard.
On the car ferry Stena Scandica, which was en route from Ventspils in Latvia to Nynashamn in Sweden and had 300 people on board, the fire was extinguished on the evening of Tuesday, August 30. The team was able to restore the work of two engines and continue transfer.

The ferry had previously lost steam due to a power outage, despite the fact that a fire that broke out in a refrigerated container on the vehicle’s deck had been extinguished in the afternoon. Barely out of control on the island of Gotska Sanden off the southeast coast of Sweden, the ship drifted towards the island of Gotland.
Fearing that the ferry might sink, the rescue services decided to start evacuating the passengers using helicopters. About 25 people were brought ashore, mainly families with children and the elderly. The team managed to start the engines as the ferry approached the Swedish coast.
As a result, the ship was able to proceed to its original destination, accompanied by tugboats and the coast guard, and evacuation activities were suspended due to darkness.
“The Stena Scandica is heading to Nynäshamn at limited speed and is expected to arrive in port on Tuesday morning,” Swedish authorities said. No casualties were reported in the incident.
It was previously reported that in Norway, one of the liners of the cruise operator Hurtigruten ran aground on the west coast of the country.
