Serbia is highly dependent on Russian oil and gas, and, according to the head of state, the country is looking for fuel sources wherever it can.
Serbia has enough funds to provide an alternative to Russian energy sources and cope with the shortage of supplies from Russia expected in the coming months. This was announced on Monday, August 29, by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, writes Reuters.
“We must pay the price of war on European soil,” Vucic said.
According to the President of Serbia, gas storages in the country are being filled to such an extent that the reserves will last 60 days, if the contracted reserves in neighboring Hungary are also used.
At the same time, he mentioned that Serbia is considering the possibility of getting oil from Iraq and Venezuela. He also added that the country will try to buy coal from Indonesia. Vucic also announced plans to import oil from Azerbaijan by 2023.
Serbia also needs additional coal purchases for thermal power plants, which provide nearly 70% of the country’s electricity.
Recall that the European Commission has begun to talk about urgent action to prevent sharp increases in electricity prices.
