The Russian people should have been the first to oppose the war, but “they wanted to sit down.”
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky called on European countries to impose a complete embargo on relations with Russia. The Ukrainian leader said this in his speech at the 17th Strategic Forum in Slovenia, the press service of the Office of the President reports.
“Whoever does not fight terrorism supports it, which means that he shares the responsibility for all its consequences. This should be a rule that will restore force to all other rules. A state that threatens the everyone around it – from the Baltic countries to Kazakhstan – Should be subject to a total embargo from all people in the world who value freedom and respect themselves. We need an embargo on all relations with Russia, with a terrorist state, while Russia continues the war, while it occupies foreign territory, destroys other people’s lives,” Zelensky said
He also called for the introduction of visas for Russian citizens who want to “sit” in Europe while others struggle.
“Europe is not a safe haven where you can sit while other people are fighting Russian terrorism. But, unfortunately, many Russian citizens see Europe in this way. So it is necessary them a European visa. And, unfortunately, none of your states are immune from the fact that war criminals, with the blood of Ukrainians on their hands, will come to you as tourists, and when they receive an order, they will no longer be tourists,” Zelensky said. .
The President stressed that from the people of Russia the resistance to the war must come.
“But we do not see regular and visible protests against the war involving the citizens of this state – even if they are not in danger of any retaliation for the protests, I repeat it again. Why is that? I leave you with the question this.”
Recall that EU foreign ministers can agree on a specific change of the current rules for issuing visas to Russian citizens.
