The White House has received reports that Ukrainian forces have launched a counteroffensive in the south of the country.
It is too early to talk about the success of the counteroffensive in southern Ukraine, but regardless of its scale and scope, the Ukrainians have already had an impact on Russia’s military potential. John Kirby, public relations coordinator for the US National Security Council, announced this on Monday, August 29, on CNN.
“Because the Russians have to withdraw resources from the east just because of reports that the Ukrainians may attack further south. And so they have to deplete some units in some areas in east of Donbass to respond to what they clearly consider an imminent counter-offensive threat,” Kirby said.
At the same time, he drew attention to the fact that Russia still has “personnel problems.”
“They have manpower problems — manpower problems that are not mitigated by the way they have to respond to reports of a potential Ukrainian counteroffensive,” Kirby said.
Kirby also said that “the idea of going on the offensive is not new to the Ukrainians” as Ukrainian forces battled Russian forces in the early months of the war.
Recall that the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation officially confirmed that the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted a counteroffensive in the directions of Kherson and Nikolaev.
