The mayor of Odessa, Gennady Trukhanov, objected to the intention to seek compromises with Russia, as Ukrainian media reported on August 29, citing a conversation between the mayor and a journalist from an Italian newspaper.
Trukhanov refuted and called false information from “Russian news agencies” that “Odessa Mayor Gennady Trukhanov called for negotiations with Russia.”
Forced to officially declare that this is a lie from the first to the last word. I can only note with pleasure that the media of the Kremlin infidels resort to fakes, the purpose of which is obvious – to persuade Ukraine to negotiate. In order to avoid further idiotic manipulations, I have to briefly repeat the same words that I have been saying since February 24 – the occupiers must be expelled from the entire territory of our country. We will fight until our final Victory. All negotiations after the Russians leave our land, Trukhanov wrote on his Facebook page on the evening of August 29.
Earlier, the media reported that the mayor of Odessa opposes the demolition of the monument to Catherine II and is in favor of seeking compromises from Russia, but called Putin a monster, and Odessa an international, not a pro-Russian city.
When Trukhanov, in an interview with the Italian edition of Corriere della Sera, was asked what would happen if Ukraine lost Crimea, he answered as follows:
I think it’s important to act politically, because the lives of millions of people are at stake. I don’t want to be misunderstood. Obviously, I dream of returning to our borders in 1991, but we need to negotiate step by step, gradually look for compromises, and avoid confrontation.
At the same time, Trukhanov noted that Putin does not think like a pragmatic politician and is a monster generated by the Soviet regime, which is trying to rebuild the Russian Empire.
I am against the demolition of statues. Even if we destroy monuments, history does not change. I know that a petition has been collected with 25 thousand signatures, but I’m waiting. With this logic, should I also remove the monument to Pushkin or Gagarin? It does not make sense.
He noted that Odessa is not a pro-Russian, but an international city, which was built by representatives of more than 120 nationalities.
