The VAKS Appeals Chamber took into custody a former prosecutor suspected of possessing eight kilograms of gold. This was announced on August 29 by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office.
The VAKS Appeals Chamber considered the appeals of the parties and changed the measure of detention, which was chosen for the former prosecutor, who is suspected of owning eight kilograms of gold.
Having considered the evidence of the parties, the court of appeal applied to the specified person a measure of restraint in the form of detention with the alternative of making bail of UAH 2.8 million. If bail is paid, a person will be subject to certain procedural obligations.
It will be recalled, during the pre-trial investigation, it was established that in late 2019 – early 2020, the prosecutor of one of the local prosecutor’s offices in Kyiv, based on a business travel order, used power in criminal proceedings as part of a group of prosecutors of the Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine. Using the power of the prosecutor in the case, the person decided to take possession of the property, which he had previously confiscated during the search. To create the appearance of legality of his actions, the prosecutor forged procedural documents in criminal proceedings on the origin of the property and later, having access to it, illegally took the gold property that weighing more than 8 kg and worth more than 11 million. hryvnias.
The actions of the former prosecutor are qualified on the basis of a crime under Part 5 of Art. 191 and part 1 of Art. 366 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
It was earlier reported that the former prosecutor of the General Prosecutor’s Office was suspected of stealing a batch of gold bars.
