The energy island is located next to Russian pipelines that transport gas to Europe.
Denmark and Germany plan to open a wind energy center in the Baltic Sea in 2030, it will serve as an alternative to Russian gas. The cost of the center is nine billion euros. Bloomberg writes about it.
It is noted that the so-called Energy Island Bornholm will connect several wind parks and distribute the energy they produce between Denmark and Germany. The project will generate more than three gigawatts, enough for 4.1 million households.
“For the first time in European history, two countries will work together on such a project,” said German Energy Minister Robert Habeck.
According to him, after the launch, the Baltic countries and Poland will join the project. Each new partner will be coordinated by Denmark and Germany.
The energy island is located next to Russian pipelines that transport gas to Europe.
“But now it’s our own energy, not Russian gas,” Khabek said.
It is reported that the energy island will require investments of three billion euros for infrastructure and another six billion for the construction of an offshore wind farm.
Construction will be carried out by German network provider 50Hertz and its Danish counterpart Energinet.
According to Danish Energy Minister Dan Jorgensen, the countries will ensure that the project will also be profitable for taxpayers.
Remember that Germany imports almost half of its gas from the Russian Federation. If earlier the share of Russian gas supplies to Germany exceeded 50%, now it has decreased to 30%.
It was also reported that on August 14, German gas storage facilities were 75% full. The authorities plan to achieve this indicator only on September 1.
