The Kremlin blocked the final document of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Conference.
The US State Department on Sunday, August 28, said that Russia does not want to recognize a serious radiological risk at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, which is why it blocked the final document of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty conference, Reuters reported.
“The Russian Federation itself decided to block consensus on a final document at the close of the Tenth Review Conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. Russia did this to avoid language that only recognizes a serious radiological risk at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in Ukraine,” the State Department said in a statement.

Russia blocked the adoption of the final document of the UN Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, complaining that parts of the draft were “overtly political”.
It will be recalled that on August 23, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, in a conversation with the French Foreign Minister, confirmed Russia’s agreement to the IAEA mission to the ZNPP. The IAEA hopes that the mission to ZNPP can take place in the next few days.
