The dismantling of Soviet monuments has begun in Estonia. In particular, a tank was removed from public space in the city of Narva.
Estonian police in the city of Narva interrupted a rally in support of the return of Soviet monuments, as military symbols were displayed at the event. On Saturday, August 27, the ERR report.
As explained by the operational head of the Ida police prefecture, Urmas Elmi, the rally was presented with military symbols promoting war, and the requirements for organizing a public meeting were grossly violated.
“We delayed the rally because the people participating in it displayed military symbols and did not agree to remove them,” he said.
The police brought to the station a 52-year-old woman who became the organizer of the rally. Law enforcement officials charged him with violating requirements for holding public meetings. Two other people were accused of inciting hatred.
“We talked to the host of the event today, explained that the use of military symbols and incitement of hatred is not allowed in Estonia. We also explained that the organizer of the meeting is responsible for compliance with all requirements for organizing public meetings,” the police said.
It is known that the Estonian government has decided to remove Soviet monuments from public space. In total, there are between 200 and 400 monuments in Estonia.
Recall that in Riga, the dismantling of the 79-meter stele of the monument to the liberators of Soviet Latvia and Riga from the Nazi invaders was completed.
