The alliance confirmed the data breach, but said there was “no indication that any networks were compromised.”
A group of hackers is selling on the Internet secret military documents containing data on modern weapons systems of NATO countries and the Alliance’s mission in the Baltic countries. This was reported by the Air Force.
Hackers gained access to data related to a major European arms manufacturer – MBDA Missile Systems, a European company headquartered in France.
Stolen data is sold on Russian and English forums. The amount of information is 80 GB, and the price is 15 bitcoins (about 321 thousand dollars).
The free 50MB data sample reviewed by the Air Force includes documents marked “NATO Confidential”, “NATO Restricted Use” and “Unclassified Controlled Information”.
The hackers did not confirm how many resources they got into the materials.
MBDA admitted that there was a leak and that the package being sold contained documents belonging to it. The company ensures that there is no secrecy in the stolen files.
However, some of the documents known to have been stolen from MBDA are marked as “inside information not to be disclosed or reproduced.”
NATO also reacted to this situation.
“We are evaluating the situation with the data allegedly stolen from MBDA. We do not see any signs that the integrity of any NATO networks has been breached,” the statement said.
The likelihood of these documents being declassified is low, according to the former official, as most of the files appear to have been created between 2017 and 2020.
It will be remembered that the site of the administration of the President of Taiwan was subjected to a cyberattack. Within a few hours, due to the actions of intruders, it completely stopped working.
