The issuance of passports valid for 5 years will continue without changes in accordance with the established procedure, according to the Russian Foreign Ministry.

Russia has suspended the acceptance of applications for the issuance of biometric foreign passports to citizens of the Russian Federation. This was reported by Interfax in connection with the consular department of the Russian Foreign Ministry on Friday, August 26.

“Acceptance of applications for the issuance of new generation passports (with a validity period of 10 years) has been temporarily suspended. The issuance of passports with a validity period of 5 years will continue without change in accordance with the established procedure as primary one , rather than a valid, used, lost or damaged one,” the message said.

It is indicated that further admission will be announced later.

A day before it was reported that Russians are widely using the borders of Estonia or Finland to enter the EU. Since the beginning of a full-scale war in Ukraine, more than 60% of Russians have used these borders.
