We are talking about suspending the simplified visa regime in Russia and Belarus, the head of the Czech Foreign Ministry explained.
The Czech Republic, which currently holds the duties of state-chairman of the Council of the European Union, will offer at a meeting of EU foreign ministers an alternative to an absolute visa ban for Russian citizens. Bloomberg reported this on Thursday, August 25.

As Czech Foreign Minister Jan Lipavsky explained, he will propose to completely suspend the simplified visa regime in Russia and Belarus. This issue will be discussed at a meeting in Prague next week.
Such a proposal does not imply a visa ban for Russian tourists, as insisted, for example, by Estonia and some other countries. But this will increase visa processing time, require more documentation, and increase Russians’ costs from 35 euros to 80 euros.
Lipavsky emphasized that the opinions of EU countries regarding the visa ban are divided. Germany remains one of the main opponents.
Recall that the head of EU diplomacy, Josep Borrell, does not support the idea of introducing a complete ban on visas for Russians.
