Russian agent “found” HIMARS near Nikolaev

SBU employees conducted an anti-sabotage special operation in the front-line regions of the Nikolaev region and detained an agent of the main department of the General Staff of the Russian Federation (GRU). This was reported on the website of the Ukrainian intelligence service on Wednesday, August 24.

It is indicated that a local resident collected intelligence about the deployment, movement and arming of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in the southern direction. At the same time, the main task of the traitor was to establish and transfer to the invaders the coordinates of the combat positions of the MLRS HIMARS.

The enemy planned to use the information received to prepare and carry out sabotage and missile attacks.

Counterintelligence officials established that the detainee had been recruited by a career Russian military intelligence officer after the start of a large-scale raid. He noted the Russian special services as an active supporter of pro-Kremlin views. The attacker spread his malicious messages on social networks.

I received an offer for tacit cooperation with the aggressor on my own phone through one of the messengers. After recruiting, he began to carry out enemy tasks in reconnaissance and subversive activities.

He passed information about things to his handler from the Russian Federation through closed electronic communication channels in the form of detailed diagrams, which he destroyed after the transfer.

During a search of the detainee’s place of residence, a mobile phone was found, which he used to communicate with the Russian coordinator.

SBU investigators informed the traitor about the suspicion of committing a crime. A preventive measure in the form of detention was chosen.
