One of the most famous photos of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill has been stolen in Otawa, Canada.
The photograph is famous for showing Churchill without a cigar. The Canadian edition of CTV said that the photo of “Lawning Lion” was taken by Canadian photographer Yusuf Karsh in December 1941.
She was kidnapped at the Chateau Laurier hotel. Over the weekend, hotel staff noticed that the original of the famous photo had been replaced with a copy, according to CTV.
We are deeply upset by this audacious act. The rest of the photos in the reading room have been removed until they can be securely protected, said Genevieve Dumas, general director of Château Laurier.
The photo was taken after a speech by the former Prime Minister in the Canadian Parliament. The image got its name “Roaring Lion” because of an incident that occurred during a photo shoot.
Before filming, Yusuf Karsh took Churchill’s cigar without asking, causing the former prime minister to glare into the camera sullenly. Then he said:
You can even make a roaring lion stand still to take a photo.
A few seconds later, a second picture was taken, in which the Prime Minister of Great Britain smiles good-naturedly.
