The Russian side offered to organize a visit of the IAEA mission to the Zaporozhye NPP from the Crimean side, but the proposal was rejected.
The Russian invaders tried to disconnect the Zaporozhye NPP from the Ukrainian energy system, but the attempts were unsuccessful. This was announced by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky at a press conference following the summit of the Crimean Platform.
“There were attempts to disconnect Zaporizhzhya NPP from the Ukrainian networks. We know this. They did not take place. Let’s believe that they heard that this is a danger to the whole world,” said Zelensky.
The State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU) previously said that the shutdown of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant could lead to an accident similar to the Japanese nuclear power plant Fukushima-1 in 2011.
The Russian side offered to organize a visit by the mission of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to the Zaporozhye NPP from Crimea, but the proposal was rejected: as Zelensky said, the Ukrainian side offered the IAEA and the UN to go to Zaporozhye NPP on a route that meets the law.
“There was a proposal for the IAEA mission to come from the occupied Crimea. We said that if this happens, the IAEA will not visit us, because it is a violation of our law. We are glad that we have been heard and are ready to come . We are ready to create a corridor in the temporarily occupied territory,” said the President of Ukraine.
Meanwhile, the invaders fired at the ZNPP ash dumps, raising clouds of radioactive dust.
Earlier, Energoatom warned about the risks of violating radiation and fire safety standards at ZNPP.
