On the morning of August 23, work began in Riga to dismantle the monument to the soldiers of the Soviet Army. It was reported by the Latvian edition of Delfi.
It is noted that an excavator is working at the foot of the monument, which is removing steps. The object is fenced off, the fences near the monument are covered with an opaque film.
Police are also on duty around the perimeter of the monument.
The dismantling is expected to be completed by November 15. Until September 12, near Victory Park, where the memorial is installed, traffic will be blocked for pedestrians and vehicles.
The cost of the work is estimated at 2.1 million euros.

Delfi recalled that on Monday, in preparation for the demolition, about 50 protesters gathered near the monument, seven of whom were detained.
