The Ministry of Culture and Information Policy got into a scandal on the eve of Independence Day. Banda Agency and the Ministry of Culture proposed to mark the holiday with an indecent gesture.
MKIP, together with the Banda agency, developed a gesture of congratulations until August 24 and launched a flash mob among Ukrainians to celebrate the birthday of Ukraine.
The flash mob was supported by the Minister of Culture and Information Policy Alexander Tkachenko, singers Jamala, DOROFEEVA, Alyona Alyona, Lida Lee, singer and model Dasha Astafieva, KALUSH band and rapper OTOY.
The network noticed that the classic variation of the trident with fingers belongs to Vyacheslav Chornovil, one of the most famous fighters for independence and democracy, and the updated gesture has a new meaning.
The Banda agency published the image with the gesture, but then changed the publication and removed it, because the Ukrainians did not appreciate such an initiative and met it with a flurry of hate in the comments.
Independence Day of Ukraine this year should sound louder than ever. There will be a lot of content and powerful speeches, but we still don’t have a universal greeting for this holiday. Everyone does it in their own way. Well, it’s time to create a common tradition. Together with the ICIP, we have chosen a gesture by which all Ukrainians can congratulate each other on Independence Day: in Kyiv, Crimea, and Warsaw. This is the Trident of Independence. The strength of our Coat of Arms pulsates in it and the spirit of independence lives, because in sign language it means the letter H.
Join the flash mob and raise your Tridents! It’s simple: put your fingers together, take a photo, add the hashtag #TRIDUBNEVIDABILITY and post it on social networks. Do not forget to explain to grandparents how to bend your fingers there, the message says.
The message “Gang” was illustrated with photographs of famous people, depicting what seems to be a “trident”. Among them are performers Nadezhda Dorofeeva, Dasha Astafieva, Lida Lee, rapper Alyona Alyona, member of the Kalush Orchestra KilimMan.
Everything would be fine if this gesture did not have a well-known obscene interpretation. The authors of the creative were immediately informed about this in the comments to the post. This is a fairly well-known gesture denoting “shocker”.
Subsequently, even Instagram hid all entries made with the trident of independence celebratory hashtag.
Most commentators on social networks reproach creatives for “inventing the wheel”, because for many years the trident has been shown with a simple gesture of three straight fingers, bending only the little finger and the big one – the so-called “Chernovol’s trident”.
A similar arrangement of fingers is called a “shocker” and means a gesture that, depending on the situation, is used as an indication of an advantage over someone or something. It also has a sexual connotation. In English, it is called “two in the pink, one in the stink” and is known throughout the world as a gesture image of double penetration in sex.
They seem to have gone crazy in their desire to “invent” something of their own. This is somehow beyond my understanding, honestly, – journalist Sergey Sidorenko commented on the idea from the “Gang” and MKIP.
As you know, since the early 1990s, the sign of the trident has been widespread in the patriotic community, which is made with three fingers – index, middle and ring, without a little finger.
If you want to repeat the example of Tkachenko for a flash mob, then repeat the best of Chornovil,” wrote journalist Maryana Pyetsukh.
