Borrell did not support a complete ban on issuing visas to Russians

Those who wish to leave Russia should be given such an opportunity, believes the head of European diplomacy.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell does not support the idea of introducing a complete ban on visas for Russians. He is about this said at an international conference in the Spanish city of Santander on Monday, August 22.

“This is a very controversial proposal … Some countries have already taken some steps in this regard, others will not support it. I think that banning all Russians from entering is not a good idea. We need to be more selective,” Borrell said.

According to him, it is worth considering the introduction of visa restrictions only against representatives of large businesses from Russia, and not against ordinary people. The head of European diplomacy believes that “those who want to leave the Russian Federation should be given such an opportunity.”

Recall that on August 31, EU foreign ministers at a meeting in Prague will discuss visa restrictions for Russians against the backdrop of the war in Ukraine. At the same time, some countries support a complete ban on issuing tourist visas to Russian citizens.
