Ukrainian diplomats are trying to get the German authorities to commit themselves to the purchase of heavier equipment, but they remain deaf – with strange reasons.
Since the beginning of June, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has been blocking Ukraine’s requests to resume arms supplies. On Friday, August 19, Die Welt reported, citing sources in the Ukrainian government.
“According to information, since June, the German Ministry of Defense has been holding summit meetings at regular intervals several times a month, in which the Minister (of Germany’s Defense) Christina Lambrecht also participates, ” the publication reports and adds that they do not end up with anything useful for the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
It was noted that since June, Ukrainian diplomats “in regular meetings tried to get the German authorities to commit to the purchase of more heavy equipment,” but they “remained deaf – with strange reasons .”
Welt’s interlocutor said that Ukraine continues to ask Germany to continue the delivery of Panzerhaubitze 2000 self-propelled artillery mounts and MARS II multiple launch rocket systems (“tracked highmars” with 12 rockets instead of six in the wheeled version) .
Earlier, the Bundestag said that the supply of arms to Kyiv was being blocked by Scholz’s office. The chancellor’s office is the “bottleneck” through which German military aid slows down.
It has also been reported that some of the German PzH 2000s in Ukraine are out of order.
