In particular, Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov, commander of the Radiation, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces of Russia, said the day before that the Ukrainian forces were preparing for a provocation “at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant. According to him, should this coincides with the arrival of UN Secretary General António Guterres in Ukraine.
He accused the Ukrainian forces of preparing this provocation to accuse the Russian Federation of causing a nuclear catastrophe and creating a 30 km wide exclusion zone around the nuclear power plant.
“Kirillov’s briefing, reinforced by (statements – ed.) of the Russian Defense Ministry, coincided with reports that the Russian authorities banned employees of Russian nuclear power plants from working on August 19,” analysts said.
ISW noted that footage leaked from the territory of the station about the deployment of military equipment by the occupiers near the nuclear reactor of the nuclear power plant.
“Russian forces are creating conditions to organize a provocation at the station and transfer narrative information to accuse Ukraine of future operations on the station’s territory,” the experts added.
It should be noted that two Russian cruise missiles flew at low altitude over the site of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant in the direction of Zaporozhye.
In addition, Energoatom said that the Zaporozhye NPP operates only for its own needs due to damage to the high-voltage line.
