The Kremlin continues to “play with its muscles” on the border with Europe and NATO. Russia deployed Kinzhal hypersonic missiles near Lithuania and Poland. They were delivered to an air base in the Kaliningrad region.
According to the Russian Ministry of War, three MiG-31 aircraft with hypersonic Kinzhal missiles were relocated to the Kaliningrad region as part of “additional strategic deterrence measures.”
They will be put on round-the-clock combat duty along with the indicated missiles at the airfield in Chkalovsk.
This airfield is located northwest of Kaliningrad.
The Kaliningrad region is a Russian enclave on the shores of the Baltic Sea, surrounded by NATO and EU countries – Lithuania and Poland.
Kh-47m2 “Kinzhal” is a Russian hypersonic aviation missile system. After successful tests, it was put into service and from December 1, 2017, began to carry out combat duty at the airfields of the Southern Military District.
For the first time, Russian President Putin announced his appearance to the general public in March 2018, and they also showed a video of the tests.
They say that the role of the carrier aircraft is performed by the MiG-31 long-range supersonic fighter-interceptor, and the missile, after being dropped at a given point, flew further at hypersonic speed, exceeding the speed of sound by 10 times, while maneuvering in all parts of the trajectory. , which allows it to reliably overcome all existing air and missile defense systems.
In addition to the modified MiG-31, the Tu-22M3 strategic aviation aircraft can also serve as a launch platform for missiles of the Kinzhal complex.
