EU foreign ministers will meet on August 31 to discuss visa restrictions for Russians amid the war in Ukraine. This was said by EC representative Anita Gipper, European Truth reports.
“I would like to remind you that on August 31 we will have an official meeting of EU foreign ministers in Prague. The discussions there will also be related to the issue of visas for Russians traveling to the EU,” the spokesman said .
He added that in the context of the visa issue, the European Commission is promoting a coordinated response at the EU level.
“Today discussions are taking place at EU level and between Member States to ensure a coordinated approach… Based on the latest information we have received from Member States, the visa activity is not yet completely stopped, in particular, humanitarian cases are being made. ,” added the spokesperson.
He stressed that the European Commissioner for Home Affairs, Ylva Johansson, will visit Latvia and Finland in the first week of September to further discuss this topic.
The spokesperson also commented on Estonia’s suspension of Schengen visas for Russians issued by the Baltic country. He noted that this is happening “given the unprecedented challenges we face – not only Ukraine, but also the member states.”
Remember that Finland complicates the visa regime for Russians. The new rules will take effect on September 1 this year.
