“More than 300,000 (people) of the population left the part where the active phase of the conflict took place. That is, about 350,000 people remained in the territory of the Luhansk region,” he said.
Gaidai recalled that before the occupation, 2 million 258 thousand citizens lived in the Lugansk region.
After the occupation of part of the region in 2014, the population in the territory controlled by Ukraine is 650 thousand people, as well as 200 thousand with the status of internally displaced people.
At the same time, in the Donetsk region, two-thirds of the population left the region after February 24, and about 250,000 more people remain in the controlled area.
