“FAO plans to store 4.07 million tons of grain, which is 25% of the national requirement. We have completed the tender and are identifying potential suppliers for the purchase of grain storage sleeves with equipment auxiliary, as well as modular barns,” said the head of the FAO office in Ukraine, Pierre Vautier.
He clarified that one of the most important requirements for obtaining equipment for temporary storage is registration in the State Agrarian Register.
It was also noted that FAO has updated its Rapid Response Plan and is calling for $115.4 million to support nearly 1 million people in rural areas by providing agricultural assistance and ensuring food security for those most affected by the war. .
As part of this program, FAO has already provided assistance to 80,000 people in 13 regions of Ukraine and continues to provide multi-purpose cash assistance to meet the basic needs of more than 5,000 families in the most affected regions in eastern and southern Ukraine.
In addition, FAO will provide animal feed in the near future, as well as pilot a voucher program for the purchase of necessary inputs for agricultural purposes. Support will be provided to displaced persons and host families in rural areas, as well as to the most vulnerable segments of the population.
In August, it was reported that FAO had launched a $40 million project to address the lack of warehouses in Ukraine. It was implemented with the financial assistance of Canada.
The Ministry of Agrarian Policy also spoke about the lack of barns. It arose due to the destruction of the infrastructure by the Russian invaders.
