The international human rights organization Amnesty International wants independent experts to check the process of compiling a provocative report in which the Ukrainian armed forces are accused of placing military equipment near residential areas. We are talking about checking the processes and decisions that precede the publication of the report, conducting research, preparing material, as well as legal and political analysis of the report.
We want to understand what exactly went wrong and why, in order to learn lessons and improve our work in the field of human rights, the organization said.
They also say they regret the press release being released “without sufficient context.”
It did not pay due attention to Russian aggression in violation of international law and the numerous war crimes committed by the Russian military and documented by Amnesty International… The findings were not conveyed with the delicacy and accuracy that should be expected from Amnesty. This concerns further communication and the response of the International Secretariat to public criticism. We condemn the instrumentalization of the press release by the Russian authorities, they added.
Earlier it became known that the Finnish branch of Amnesty International lost about 400 donors after the publication of a report criticizing the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Amnesty Finland chief Frank Johansson noted that this time the donor outflow is the largest of his 32-year career in the organization.
Prior to this, the co-founder of the Swedish link of Amnesty International, Per Westberg, announced that he was leaving the organization due to disagreement with the report on the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In response to the scandalous Amnesty International report on Ukraine, the EU recalled that it is Russia that commits unjustified aggression and attacks civilians and civilian objects, while the Ukrainian army is trying to protect them.
