Per Westberg, who has been a member and co-founder of the organization for almost 60 years, has decided to step down.
Per Westberg, co-founder of the Swedish division of Amnesty International, said that he will leave his post because of the organization’s scandalous report on the Armed Forces of Ukraine. This was reported by Svenska Dagbladet.
“I have been a member of the organization for almost sixty years. It is with a heavy heart that I am ending my long and fruitful collaboration because of Amnesty’s statements about the war in Ukraine,” said Westberg.
He also added that at the beginning of its existence, the company worked on the release of political prisoners, but gradually “expanded its mandate.”
Per Westberg in 1963 became the founder of the Swedish branch of Amnesty International. From 1976-1982 he was the editor-in-chief of Sweden’s largest daily newspaper, Dagens Nyheter. Westberg is also a member of the committee for the Nobel Prize in Literature.
Remember, on August 4, the human rights organization Amnesty International stated in its report that the Ukrainian military threatens the civilian population. However, the document did not say a word about the crimes of the occupiers. The OP said that only the Russian army threatens Ukrainians and condemned the choice of Amnesty International.
Later, the head of the Ukrainian office, Oksana Pokalchuk, resigned after a scathing report.
