Volodymyr Zelensky, the President of Ukraine, deprived the Ukrainian figure skater, 1992 Olympic figure skating champion Viktor Petrenko of his presidential scholarship.
The reason for this was Petrenko’s performance in July at the Scarlet Flower ice show in Sochi, despite Russia’s large-scale aggression against Ukraine. This was announced today, August 8, on the website of the Office of the President.
It is noted that Petrenko’s act was condemned by the National Olympic Committee and the Ukrainian Figure Skating Federation. The latter also submitted to the Ministry of Youth and Sports a proposal to deprive the skater of the state scholarship.
In addition, Viktor Petrenko stopped participating in the training process, training athletes for national teams in Olympic sports and activities to develop the public physical culture and sports movement, the report says.
