If Vladimir Putin is present at the G20 summit, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky may also attend a meeting of world leaders in Indonesia.
Such a statement was made by adviser to the chairman of the OP Mikhail Podolyak in an interview with BBC Ukraine.
Zelenskiy has not yet decided whether to accept an invitation to the G20 summit, Podolyak said.
This will be decided specifically closer to the summit, this is the first. Secondly, the president believes that he should be on the territory of Ukraine, because today online formats allow you to work effectively at any summits. But there is a third – if there is Putin, then of course, it will be necessary to think about the need for our presence, – said the adviser to the head of the Presidential Office.
On June 29, the Indonesian authorities ruled out the personal presence of the Russian president at the G20 summit, which will be held on November 15-16 in Bali. This was announced by Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi.
At the same time, he did not rule out Putin’s speech via video link.
Subsequently, an aide to the President of the Russian Federation said that Putin accepted Indonesia’s invitation to participate in the G20 summit, but “the format is still being specified.”
At the end of June, Indonesian President Joko Widodo visited Kyiv and Moscow.
In April, finance ministers and central bankers from a number of Western countries walked out of a G20 meeting in Washington during a speech by Russian representatives. Members of the delegations of the United States, Great Britain, France and Canada, as well as Ukraine, left the hall in protest against the Russian military invasion of Ukrainian territory. Many of those who took part in the meeting remotely turned off their video cameras.
It is assumed that the President of Russia will still take part in the G20 summit via video link.
The President of Indonesia invited the Russian Federation to the G20 summit Russia, trying to establish diplomatic channels in a situation where Western states are trying to isolate Putin on the global stage.
In view of this, we had to take into account the position of such states as India, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico and Saudi Arabia, which, first of all, are interested in discussing ways to overcome the negative consequences of the coronavirus pandemic in the global arena.
Zelensky told Widodo that he plans to come, but this will depend on the military situation in Ukraine and on the composition of the summit participants.
