The international community must respond more quickly to the shelling and mining of the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant by the Russian invaders. This statement was made by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky in an evening video message on Monday, August 8.
According to him, Kyiv is actively informing partners about what is happening in ZNPP, and there are already the first reactions. However, the head of state emphasized, the response actions must be accelerated.
“Russia will not pay attention to words and concerns. New sanctions are needed against the terrorist state and the entire Russian nuclear industry for creating threats of a nuclear catastrophe. The world must not forget Chernobyl and remember that the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant is the largest in Europe,” he said. Zelensky.
He recalled that the Chernobyl disaster was an explosion in a reactor, while there were six power units at ZNPP.
It will be recalled that on August 6, Russian aggressors fired twice at the ZNPP. The power unit No. 4 were killed at the station. Energoatom reported that the nitrogen-oxygen station and the combined auxiliary building were damaged as a result of the shelling.
The commander of the Russian garrison at the Zaporizhzhya NPP announced that it was mined and ready to detonate it.
