Pope called for Easter truce in Ukraine

The Pope called for a ceasefire in Ukraine, but not for rearmament and renewed fighting.

Pope Francis called on Moscow and Kyiv to end an Easter truce with Ukraine, which would lead to negotiations for a lasting peace.

“Put down your weapons!” he said at the conclusion of a service for thousands of people in St. Louis. Peter’s Square in the Vatican, according to Sky News.

“Let the Easter truce begin. But not for rearmament and resumption of combat, but for peace through genuine negotiations,” the Pope stressed.

Recall that earlier Pope Francis condemned the atrocities in Bucha and raised the Ukrainian flag, which was sent to him from the city in the Kiev region, which suffered from Russian military aggression.
