Peace with Russia could be in Ukrainian terms, President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview on April 10 with the AP.
If Ukraine has a chance to resolve the issue of ending the war through diplomacy, it should not be missed, Zelensky said.
“People want this war to end. In our terms, in terms of freedom, in terms of Ukraine,” the president said.
He stressed that every Ukrainian family has lost something, and they are unlikely to be satisfied with the world in any terms.
“But we must understand that any war must end in peace … Even where there are millions of victims, everyone comes in peace,” Zelensky said.
The President also said that if Mariupol surrenders, Ukraine’s position will be weaker. The stronger the position of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in Mariupol, the stronger its position in the east of the country as a whole and at the negotiating table, he said.
Zelensky also added that Ukraine’s defeat in the east means Russia could re -enter territories that are now back under the control of Ukrainian troops.
Earlier, Zelensky said that he would not make predictions of the development of events in eastern Ukraine.
