Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki called the journalist’s verdict an “absolute scandal” and promised a tough reaction from the Foreign Ministry.
“Freedom of the press, freedom of speech and the unhindered right to express views are the main principles of democracy. The sentence of the Lukashenka regime to the journalist Irina Slaunikova – 5 years in prison – is an absolute scandal, a violation of all norms of civilization, human rights and journalists,” said Morawiecki.
According to the Belarusian human rights center Viasna, at least 1,253 convicts are now political prisoners in Belarus.
Recall that in Belarus a student was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison for an anti-war publication.
