The company made 14 bank transfers totaling $133,000 to an art consultant who arranged deals for the Rotenbergs.
Russian oligarchs Arkady and Boris Rotenberg (judo partners of Russian President Vladimir Putin) figured out how to avoid anti-Russian sanctions on Britain. The BBC reported it.
It was mentioned that in 2016-2017 the British government obliged almost all state companies to identify their real owners. The exception is a type of ownership such as “English limited partnership” (ELP).
According to the UK government, ELPs cannot own assets, have no beneficial owners and cannot legally open bank accounts on their own. But the investigation shows otherwise.
The Rotenbergs were reportedly among those who took advantage of ELP’s secrecy.
Sinara Company LP was established in London in January 2017, according to investigators. According to the documents, he is engaged in providing tourist services and selling tickets.
However, journalists learned that between July 2017 and June 2018, this company made at least 14 bank transfers worth $133,000 to an art consultant who arranged deals for the Rotenbergs.
Almost 25% of all “limited partnerships” were established by four specialized agencies with experience in creating anonymous companies for clients in Eastern Europe and the former USSR. Some of them are related to money laundering.
Recall that the UK has added 42 new points of sanctions against Russia. The sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans, target the governors of several Russian regions.
It is also reported that the EU has called the value of frozen assets of Russian oligarchs. We are talking about more than 12.5 billion euros.
