North Korea’s UN envoy told a conference on nuclear non-proliferation in New York that the DPRK has withdrawn from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) as part of the legal procedure under the treaty’s relevant article .
“No one has the right or reason to accuse the DPRK, a nuclear-weapon country and a non-state party (NPT), of exercising the right to self-defense,” a North Korean official said in a statement.
Earlier, the North Korean leader issued an official statement on the occasion of the 69th anniversary of the end of the Korean War (1950-1953). In it, he expressed his readiness to start a war with the use of strategic nuclear weapons in the event of an attempt to attack the DPRK.
North Korea has accused the US and South Korea of instigating a conflict that could lead to a “Second Korean War”.
