The United States has been added to the list of countries whose legislative bodies have adopted NATO expansion documents.
The United States Senate approved a resolution to ratify the accession protocols for Finland and Sweden to NATO. It was announced on Wednesday, August 3, by the C-SPAN TV channel.
According to the agency, 74 senators voted “for” joining the military alliance, and one – “against”. Thus the resolution was adopted by a majority of 67 required votes.

In accordance with the peculiarities of American law, the procedure for ratification is carried out directly by the president, the Senate gives its consent. Now the head of state, Joe Biden, has to sign the relevant documents on the accession of Stockholm and Helsinki to NATO and send them to the alliance.
The entry of Finland and Sweden into NATO must be ratified by all members of the bloc. So far, more than 20 of the 30 countries included have done so.
Finland and Sweden applied to join NATO in May this year. The countries emphasized that the decision was connected to Russia’s aggression against Ukraine.
