The American Defense Giant Lockheed Martin is actively promoting the advanced Thaad Missile Defense System in European countries against the background of a growing threat from Russia. Reuters reported this reference to the words of the President of Lockheed Martin Michael Williamson.
He confirmed that Lockheed Martin is talking to potential buyers in Europe under Thaad (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense).
According to him, the company sees the greatest prospects of growth in markets outside the United States, especially in Europe, over the next five years.
The Thaad system is offered as an alternative to Israel’s Arrow 3 system, which Berlin has already selected for integration in the air for the -Air Defense Project “European Sky Shield Initiative).
Interest in the advanced missile defense systems and opposition in Europe grew after a full -scale raid on Russia in Ukraine in 2022. Real incidents with Russian drones, which attacked the airspace of NATO countries, in particular Poland and Denmark, adding to the issue.
To strengthen its positions in Germany, Lockheed Martin entered into a partnership with local defense remembrance Rheinmetall.
However, European governments are still cautious about the great hope of American defense technologies. For example, Denmark rejected the proposal for the American Patriot System in favor of European Sam/T.
Remember that European Commission leader Ursula Von der Lyain also mentioned this proposal in his speech on September 10. He called for responding to the appeals of baltic allies and emphasized that the creation of the “wall of drones” was required to ensure Europe’s reliable defense.
