The main reason is to activate the mechanism of automatic restoration of penalties initiated by a number of European states.
Iran announced the immediate suspension of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). The decision was made by the Supreme Council of Iran’s national security under the leadership of the newly elected President Masud Peseshkin. On Saturday, September 20, Tasnim reported that there was a reference to resources.
The National Security Council announced in a statement that despite the cooperation of the Iranian Foreign Ministry and the IEAN and the submission of plans to resolve the nuclear issue, “the actions of European countries will actually suspend the path of cooperation with the agency.”
It is noted that the council held a meeting under the president’s leadership, considering the situation in the region.
In addition, a review of the actions of individual states in the international arena is conducted, especially in the context of military operations and imposed penalties.
In the past, the UN Security Council has decided to restore sanctions against Iran, announcing a violation of the provisions of Tehran’s nuclear agreement. An active role in this process was played by the European Union, especially Germany, France and the UK, which supported the initiative to restore sanctions. The United States also agreed with such a step.
Remember, the UN Security Council on September 19 restored restrictions against Iran, which acted before the 2015 nuclear agreement, which rejected the proposal to expand the regime’s softening. Only four countries voted for the expansion of penalties – Russia, China, Algeria and Pakistan.
On July 30 of this year, the US Financial Department announced the largest penalties against Iran since 2018.
