The Chinese Foreign Ministry said Beijing would take “all necessary measures” to protect sovereignty and territorial integrity. This is how the Chinese government reacted to the US House of Representatives speaker’s “Asian” tour.
Official Beijing responded to the visit of US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with the assurance that it will take “all necessary steps to resolutely defend sovereignty and territorial integrity.” This was stated in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of China, reported the local edition of Xinhua on Tuesday, August 2.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry called Pelosi’s visit a “serious violation of the One China principle.” They believe it “seriously violates China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, undermines peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and sends a wrong message to separatist forces about Taiwan independence.”
“China strongly opposes and condemns this, and has made a serious demarche and strong protest against the United States,” the statement said.
The Chinese Office emphasized that Taiwan is “an integral part of China’s territory, and the government of the People’s Republic of China is the only legitimate government representing the whole of China.”
“China has no doubt that it will take all necessary measures to resolutely defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity in response to the US spokesperson’s visit. All consequences arising from this must be borne by the United States and the separatist Taiwan independence forces,” the Chinese Foreign ministry concluded.
Taiwan now has its own constitution, army and government. It is currently recognized by fourteen small states. China considers the island as its province. With Taiwanese politicians proposing to declare the island’s independence, Beijing responded with threats to start a war.
It can be recalled that on Tuesday, August 2, the Chinese authorities once again warned the United States about the situation during the visit of the speaker of the US House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, to Taiwan.
It was previously reported that Taiwan raised its combat readiness level from the morning of August 2 to noon on August 4.
