The new German ambassador to Ukraine Gaiko Toms has officially began its diplomatic mission at Kyiv. The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Yevgeny Perebiinis has received copies of charity letters from him, confirming the beginning of the work of the new German representative in Ukraine. The relevant information was published on September 17 on Ukraine’s official Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the major areas of cooperation between the two states, especially in the European and Euro context of Ukraine. The issue of supporting Ukraine’s armed forces will also be affected, as well as the consequences of Russia’s uprising and attacking veilists, which are practiced daily.
Gayko Toms confirmed that Germany remains an unchanged ally of Ukraine, which supports his sovereignty and territorial integrity. He emphasized the German government’s readiness to expand military, economic and human aid in the future.
According to Welt, the new ambassador is an experienced diplomat with significant international experience. During the period from 2020 to 2023, he led the German embassy in Brazil, and before that was the deputy head of the German representative office in NATO. In addition, until the last move of the TOS government, he held the State Secretary’s position in the Federal Ministry of Finance of Germany.
At the same time, it was learned that the current German ambassador to Ukraine Martin Jeger since September 2025 has been the head of the German Federal Intelligence Service (BND).
