The National Bank decided on the gradual withdrawal from the monetary circulation of 10 cents from October 1, 2025.
The NBU press service reported this today, September 17.
It is noted that these coins will remain in the payment – retail chains, services and banks of Ukraine will continue to accept them for settlements and payments with payment.
Citizens do not need to give or exchange them specifically, ”NBU emphasized.
At the same time from October 1:
- Ukrainian banks will not produce coins from 10 cents from CAS for all types of cash transactions;
- The National Bank will not pass coins with denomination of 10 cents and stops reinforcing the cash tables of banks to replenish monetary circulation.
Once in banks, such coins will no longer return to circulation, but will be removed and transferred to NBU for further transmission and disposal.
The decision on the gradual removal of coins with denomination for 10 cents of the National Bank explains the reduction in demand for them with banks and a trading network, therefore, their removal will reduce the cost of production, processing, transportation, storage and circulation of such coins.
If coins of 50 Kopecks retain constant demand, in particular, in the field of trade, then coins of 10 cents have ceased to play a significant role in cash payments for goods and services, ”NBU emphasized.
If from October 1, 2025, during monetary operations in the retail network or service sector, there are no coins in the amount of 10 cents, it is proposed to apply the rules for rounding of the total sums in the check:
- The amount ending from 1 to 24 cents is surrounded by a reduction to the nearest amount that ends with 00 cents;
- The amount ending from 25 to 49 cents is rounded to an increase to 50 cents;
- The amount ending from 51 to 74 cents is rounded to reduce to 50 cents;
- The amount ending from 75 to 99 cents is rounded to an increase to the nearest amount that ends with 00 cents.
Rounding will not be done during non -pellets.
As the previous experience of using the rules of rounding in Ukraine shows, it does not have a significant impact on inflation, since we are talking about rounding the amount of all goods in the check, and not about the prices of individual goods added to NBU.
